Worthington Windsurfing Regatta
and Unvarnished Music Festival
Host of the 2014, 2008, and 2003 US Windsurfing National Championships
Date: Usually held around mid-June -Â This year June 11-12, 2016. Click HERE to go to the Registration page.
Location: Lake Okabena, Worthington Minnesota
Host organizer: Jeff Hegwer and Worthington Windsurfing
Resources: Worthington Windsurfing
History: This event is held in conjuction with a music festival so there is plenty to do before, during, and after racing. The entire town of Worthington welcomes the Windsurfing Community and treats them as “Exhalted Rulers of the Universe,” and this kind of hospitality led to Windsurfing Magazine dubbing Worthington as the “Best Town In America.” Furthermore, the regatta is generally covered quite well in the media by sources such as The Daily Globe, Dan Norman Photography, and even at You Tube (search worthington windsurfing).
Special Notes: The Worthington Windsurfing Regatta is one of the annual stops on the US Windsurfing National Race Tour, and in both 2003 and 2008 it doubled as the US Windsurfing National Championships! Worthington is also host to the fantastic season-long Midwest Speed Quest GPS speed sailing event that has garnered national and international attention.
